The Renaissance of Italian Comics

Abstract

My research focuses specifically on Italian comics. Comic as medium is a fusion of drawn images and written words, where reading and looking are “intimamente connessi” (Barbieri 2011); it is enriching and effective in the spreading of other arts and science. Cartoonists with their creativity assume the role of communicators by making different scientific topics appealing , arousing curiosity in a wider audience.

Having been immersed in the world of Italian Comics for the last 24 years, I have developed many and deep contacts amongst authors and publishers. I am interested in exploring this world from an inside perspective, analysing the new millennium Italian production, interviewing cartoonists and working closely with publishers to see how much space they give to the dissemination of scientific knowledge
